DATACENTERS

On Friday, April 15th, Facebook hosted a Grand Opening celebration for their first new Datacenter in Prineville, Oregon, and the first thing visitors saw upon entering the site is a 100kW array of PV Trackers (PVT) dual-axis solar trackers.  Sited along the East side of the 300,000 square foot structure, the array will provide electric power for the office areas.  The array consists of seventeen trackers with SolarWorld 240W panels and was installed by Sunlight Solar and PV Trackers.

The installation introduces PVT’s 7.2DX tracker design that beats the performance and cost of competing technologies and is capable of carrying up to 7.2KW of solar panels. The solar array features products and talent local to Oregon. Central Oregon businesses were chosen for the trackers, inverters and installation, which is a great showcase of innovation and expertise of this small community that is big in solar.

Sited along the East side of the 300,000 square foot Facebook Datacenter structure, the PV Trackers array will provide electric power for the facility’s office areas. The array consists of seventeen trackers with SolarWorld 245W panels and was installed by Sunlight Solar and PV Trackers. The installation is the first for PVT’s next-generation tracker design that beats the performance and cost of competing technologies and is capable of carrying 7kW of solar panels. “This data center is built for energy efficiency and is a milestone for Facebook,” said Tom Furlong, director of technical operations at Facebook. “The new computing capacity will enable us to offer great new social experiences, while setting new standards for environmental responsibility in data center design and operations.”
